Check out the interview below.

Tell us about MEEK LEGACY

Keva: MEEK LEGACY is a legacy of love established to continuously inspire and uplift through books, speaking, and entertainment. The name came from my paternal and maternal grandmothers (Mary and Eula), my mother (Edna), and me (Keva). All three of these women are instrumental in me becoming the woman I am and I wanted the name to reflect what the business would do. “Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth.” Sharing stories, books like Prayer Breaths, and documentaries like “Invisible Hope,” are all a part of uplifting and inspiring, something my grandmothers did and my mother still does.

What motivates you?

Keva: What motivates me is the fact that after having 3 blood clots on the brain, being put in a medically induced coma, 2 strokes, temporary paralysis, grand mal seizures, a miscarriage, and seeing a death angel, God still saw fit to keep me here on earth a little while longer. Life is precious and because I have full activities of my limbs and I’m in my right mind that’s motivation enough for me to get up each day and be grateful. I don’t look anything like what I’ve been through!

Can you tell us a little bit about how you raise awareness about lupus?

Keva: Lupus Awareness is dear to my heart not just because I’m an 18-year lupus thriver, but because so many are miseducated or uninformed about it. I started a nonprofit, Beautiful Butterflies Inc., and we do a monthly support group, a lupus awareness luncheon, a 5k walk, a golf tournament, health fairs, and panels, and speak within the community to educate.

What have been the biggest accomplishments of your nonprofit, Beautiful Butterflies?

Keva: Being recognized by our city for a City Resolution, being able to serve food to thousands of people during the pandemic, partnering with Senator Gladys Robinson on two bills specific to Lupus, and creating a safe space for those challenged by lupus.

Who has been your greatest inspiration?

Keva: My greatest inspiration would have to be my parents. I have seen them work through every situation in life and handle all things with dignity and class. They always trusted God, worked hard, served others, and made family a priority.

If you had a magic wand, what are the top three things you would change in the world?

Keva: I would change Systemic Racism, Hunger/Poverty, Disease.

Can you describe your typical day?

Keva: My typical day right now starts with teaching 2nd grade. Once I’m done with any meetings after school, I may go to the gym or a doctor’s appointment. (depending upon the day and the need) I go to my office, visit my parents, and drive home. I have just been in three different cities!

As a multi-business owner, how do you manage your time?

Keva: I use my calendar on my phone A LOT! I try to make sure I treat people like I want to be treated so I return phone calls and emails within a reasonable time. Even if those phone calls are made while I’m driving from one destination to the next. I also realize my body needs rest so I try to be conscious of how I book things on my calendar. There is only one me and I want to be around for a while!
