Tell us about yourself

Dacia: I grew up in Galveston, TX where I graduated from Ball High School. I received my bachelor’s from Texas State University and am currently pursuing my master’s at Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, GA. I knew I wanted to work in entertainment at a young age, so after college, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my dreams. I have been working in the entertainment industry for over 15 years in many different capacities. I have had the pleasure of gracing the stage and screen with some of the greatest artists and actors in the world. In addition to performing, I am a writer and have recently released my first book titled, “The Game of Life.”

What inspired you to write “The Game of Life: Releasing the Weight When God Says Wait”?

Dacia: It is inevitable that at some point in a person’s life there will be a season of waiting; waiting to find that special someone, waiting to have those amazing children, or land that dream job. I wanted to take my readers down a journey of releasing the heaviness of waiting.

What part of the book was the most fun to write?

Dacia: I had a ball writing the Rules of Engagement. I was able to draw on my own experiences in an effort to teach people how to be conscious conversationalists and think before they speak. We are so used to asking questions when engaging in small talk but some things are off-limits. It is the funniest part of the book and I love it because people are able to laugh and learn simultaneously.

Who are your biggest influences?

Dacia: Debbie Allen has been my role model since I was a kid. As a multi-hyphenate in the entertainment industry. She is the epitome of dreaming big and refusing to put herself in a box. She is an actor, dancer, director, producer, and philanthropist to name a few. Debbie Allen is the golden picture of what is possible, and she continues to inspire me to dream a bigger dream.

What challenges have you faced while getting to where you are today?
Independent authors have great stories to tell, but may not immediately reach the best-sellers list because of exposure and the full force of a publishing company team. But I am on my way, see you at the top!

Who have been the biggest supporters in your life?

Dacia: My husband is my biggest cheerleader. He is constantly affirming my purpose and encouraging me to stay focused and keep pushing. When it seems overwhelming he reminds me to take it one step at a time. “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.” (Disclaimer: I am not encouraging elephant eating.)

What can we expect from you in the near future?

Dacia: My book has been distributed and is now available worldwide, which I am super excited about. I plan to continue to promote the book with interviews and speaking engagements to encourage people to stay hopeful in difficult seasons. I also have a few projects in the works through my production company D.O.P. Entertainment, so look out for that. In the meantime, you can catch me on “Coming 2 America” on Amazon and on “Genius: Aretha on Hulu.”

Where can everyone purchase your book?

Dacia: My book is available where books are sold as well as on my site www.daciajames.com
