Interview with Geojam Co-Founder

Geojam blends the tech and community of a social media platform, the nostalgia of live concerts, and the fun of music streaming to create the ultimate experience. Geojam is the first music discovery app that allows users to earn points just for streaming music they love and those points can be redeemed for unique virtual and in-person experiences with their favorite artists.

Sarah Figueroa, the 26 years old founder and CEO of Geojam secured $2 million in funding pre-seed for the platform and aim to put the power back into the user’s hands by breaking away from traditional algorithm-based streaming models. Since launching in October, fans have won the chance to be on a billboard with rapper Machine Gun Kelly, go live with DJ D-Nice and have a video call with Mariah Carey.

What sparked the creation of GeoJam?

Sarah: Geojam was founded by Sarah Figueroa, Sam Krichevsky, and Nir Golan in New York City with the purpose of creating the ultimate social media platform that uses music as its connector. Our mission is for everyone to experience moments together, and we felt that there was no better way to do that than putting music at the center of these moments.

How is GeoJam differentiated from other streaming music platforms?

Sarah: Geojam is not a streaming platform, although you can stream all music directly through Geojam. Geojam is a social network that sits on top of Spotify and Apple Music with community and rewards at its core.

What are some of the live experiences that users can enjoy?

Sarah: Since launching last October, fans have had the opportunity to win the chance to be on a billboard with Machine Gun Kelly, Skateboard with Nyjah Huston, have a video call with Mariah Carey, and fly on a private jet with 24kGoldn as well as many other things that include cooking, playing video games, and being in a music video with their favorite artist.

What are the interactive experience benefits for artists and fans?

Sarah: We’re allowing artists and fans to connect in a whole new way. Almost everything a fan does on the app can earn points and those points can be redeemed for experiences, products, and merchandise from their favorite artists and brands. For artists this allows them to promote their music, amplify their revenue streams, and connect with fans in a whole new way.

What do you think is the biggest benefit for fans on this platform?

Sarah: Bringing a sense of community to music streaming.

What sets GeoJam apart in regards to how artists can monetize in comparison to other platforms?

Sarah: We give artists a platform to connect with their fans, promote their music and merch sales, and monetize virtual and physical experiences.

What can we expect from GeoJam in the near future?

Sarah: Geojam will be the social network that all fans go-to for music discovery and to connect with their favorite artists in unique ways. Geojam is a place where fans can experience incredible opportunities with artists and other fans both in a live setting and from their home.
